What to Expect From the Story on Crunchyroll
Firefly Wedding follows Satoko Kirigaya, a daughter of a wealthy Meiji-era family whose fragile health makes marriage an urgent priority, and Shinpei Goto, the assassin whose violent world collides with hers. Their relationship begins through danger and negotiation rather than affection, which is precisely what gives the series its dark romance identity.
The adaptation is expected to cover the opening arcs of the manga, including the first encounter and the contract marriage arrangement that defines the central pairing. Viewers coming in cold can expect:
- A historical setting built on class, family duty, and social expectation
- Suspense and pursuit sequences connected to Shinpei's profession
- A slow-burn relationship shaped by unequal circumstances
- Psychological drama rather than conventional romantic comedy beats
If you read the manga ahead of the anime, be careful in episode discussion threads and communities like r/FireflyWedding. Manga readers are generally expected to tag later-arc spoilers so first-time viewers can enjoy the weekly reveals.
